Kristen Tamblyn, Birth Doula
Pregnancy is a time of transformation--not just in your body, but in every way. You are beginning to forge a new identity as a mother and caregiver, your capacity to love is expanding too and you may learn that it really is possible to love someone that you have never officially met before. This transformation is miraculous to experience, but can sometimes be overwhelming. There are so many birth choices: hospital, home or birth center? Natural or medicated? It can be a bit much to take in.

No matter what direction you are leaning, as your doula, I can help you sort through your choices and provide you with non-judgemental support throughout the process. I will help you navigate through the emotions, questions and natural fears of pregnancy and labor. Together we will find answers to your questions and create a birth plan that includes your wishes and hopes for the experience. We will discuss what your ideal birth looks like and formulate a plan to help achieve those goals. Once the time arrives, I will be there for you throughout your labor and birth, providing comfort, reassurance and companionship to you and your birth partner.

Whether this is your first pregnancy or your fifth, a doula can enhance your labor and birth experience by providing you with physical and emotional support and pain-relieving comfort measures. Having a doula present at your birth gives you the confidence that comes from having a trained labor and birth professional whose job is to help you feel the best that you can. I can make sure that your wishes are honored by everyone present at the birth and facilitate communication between you and the medical professionals in attendance. I will have your best interests at heart, not the hospital's bottom line.

After your baby's birth, our relationship does not end. I can help you learn to  breastfeed your baby and provide information and guidance should there be any difficulties. I will also remain with you for up to two hours after your baby's birth to  provide any assistance that you may need so that you can focus on bonding with your new baby.  In addition, we will have up to two postpartum visits together. During these visits you will get answers to any questions you have about your baby, your postpartum body or your transition into motherhood, as well as additional lactation support and the opportunity discuss your birth experience in depth.
